Publication: selected, high quality abstracts may be published in Clinical Rehabilitation – this usually applies to research but may include multi-centre audit – before which authors will receive notification.

This online conference, jointly hosted by the SRR, BSRM, ACPPLD, and supported by the EFRR, will be an unmissable opportunity to share insights and best practice, discuss implications for the future of rehabilitation, and extend and strengthen our professional networks. Rehabilitation has been highlighted publicly and politically by the pandemic. Before COVID-19, rehabilitation services were already under strain. In 2020, new COVID-19 related rehabilitation needs have emerged – not only from those who survived COVID-19, but also among those whose health has been impacted by isolation and other COVID-19-related factors. Taken together, more people need high quality, evidence-based rehabilitation for their long term, complex needs than ever before.

These urgent and important demands on rehabilitation affect everyone working in this important field; new questions have arisen about how best to adapt services to ensure they are fit for purpose and adaptable in future. There are important questions about new education and training, required by practitioners to deliver these services, as well as an urgent need for new research to strengthen the evidence underpinning rehabilitation practice.

What will the programme cover, and whom is it for?

The programme will address a broad range of rehabilitation topics, covering both COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 related topics. The conference is intended for anyone involved in rehabilitation (including clinical practice, education and research). Abstract submissions from trainees, early career researchers, clinicians and students are particularly welcomed.

The aims of this meeting are to:

share key lessons learned from rehabilitation in the era of COVID-19 to improve rehabilitation research, practice and education in future
provide a cross-disciplinary platform to discuss priorities for ‘rehabilitation’ in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic.
foster a larger, cross-disciplinary and international professional rehabilitation network in the COVID -19 era to continue to:
– provide mutual professional support and exchange of information as we enter a new era of living with the virus
– raise the profile of rehabilitation (including research, practice and education) to others, including policy makers, research funders, service commissioners.

How do I submit an abstract for a talk or poster at this conference?

We welcome abstracts for talks/posters on any topic related to rehabilitation (ie abstracts may be related to COVID-19 but all other topics are welcome). Authors must consult the guidance for authors as guidance may differ for each submission category.
