Paul M Brennan, BSc (Hons), MB BChir, PhD, FRCS (NS), is a Professor of Clinical and Experimental Neurosurgery, and Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon at the University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian and Translational Neurosurgery, Centre for clinical brain sciences, University of Edinburgh, UK.​ Paul’s research spans the laboratory and the clinic, combining molecular, epidemiology and clinical investigation to guide rationale innovation to improve patient care. He applies this strategy to improving diagnosis, treatment and outcomes for people with brain tumours, and traumatic brain or spinal injuries. He is Chief Investigator of the UK’s NIHR-funded Duration of External Neck Stabilization (DENS) study, investigating whether older or frail patients with a new odontoid fracture are best managed without a hard cervical collar.
