Societal and Economic Impact of Brain Injury: Follow up Workshop

Venue: Online

Website: www.ukabif.org.uk

Event Notes:

Brain injury is the leading cause of death and disability in people under 40 years of age in the UK. All health and social care professionals across the Southwest are working with people with brain injuries. The Southwest has long experienced patches of social deprivation, especially among rural areas but new initiatives across the region are aiming to improve productivity and aid people back into work. Understanding brain injury and the support needs of individuals is a crucial part of ensuing success in these initiatives, as brain injury is a condition that is far more common among groups affected by social deprivation.

This webinar is open to all individuals working within the public sector, including criminal justice, welfare, and housing, return to work and productivity development, as well as policy makers and politicians. The event will talk attendees through the ‘pathway’ of brain injury, from injury and admission to hospital, though acute and in-patient care and through to discharge and community living. The day will end with an overview of the way in which brain injury impacts on multiple community-based public services, reduces productivity and perpetuates social deprivation.
