Event Notes:

The theme of this meeting is “Minimising acute toxicity and late effects in paediatric neuro-oncology.”

The Keynote speaker this year will be Matthew Ladra. Matt is the director of the paediatric radiation oncology program for the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center at Sibley Memorial Hospital, and serves as adjunct faculty for the Children’s National Medical Center and as an associate professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He earned a BA in Molecular Biology from Princeton University and both his medical degree and Masters in Public Health at Tulane University. His residency in radiation oncology at the University of Washington Medical Center was followed by a fellowship in paediatric proton therapy at Massachusetts General Hospital, and he went on to complete a research fellowship with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, treating paediatric leukaemia in Morocco. He is an active member of the Children’s Oncology Group in the Renal Tumor, Soft Tissue Sarcoma, and Brain Tumor Committees.  His research interests include rhabdomyosarcoma, medulloblastoma, and reducing late toxicity

We will continue to showcase prominent international and local speakers from across the multi-disciplinary spectrum, as well as the delegate-driven case material which generates such lively discussion and debate. We hope to encourage participation by Paediatric Oncologists, Neurosurgeons, Radiation Oncologists, Radiologists, Pathologists, Allied Health Professionals and Patient Advocates from all over sub-Saharan Africa.
