Telerehabilitation in Nepal (TERN) is a Research England QR-GCRF funded project delivered by University of Leeds in collaboration with research partners in Nepal. Every year there are nearly 13,000 road accidents in Nepal, with more than 10,000 left with serious disabling injuries requiring life-long care. The Spinal Injuries Rehabilitation Centre (SIRC) is a NGO run 51-bedded hospital and the only centre providing inpatient specialist rehabilitation care for these individuals for all the 77 districts in Nepal. Long term care for these individuals after discharge from SIRC is difficult as they might have to travel for days to get to the centre and cannot afford the transport costs. The TERN project led by Dr Manoj Sivan (Associate Professor in Rehabilitation Medicine) aims to bridge this gap by using innovative video teleconference systems to connect these individuals to the SIRC team and enable continuity of expert multidisciplinary care.
