Event Notes:

Adjunctive Medical Hypnosis: Simple, Effective, Non-Pharmacological Intervention: Joint National Conference 2023 with RSM (Hypnosis & Psychosomatic Medicine & Anaesthesia Sections), British Society of Clinical & Academic Hypnosis and the British Society of Medical & Dental Hypnosis.

Our speakers will discuss informal methods, including the impact of incorporating conversational hypnotic language in everyday practice, as well as more advanced theories, such as the use of patient-generated imagery in pre and post-operative care. There will also be time allocated to critically evaluate the new hypnotic recordings used by the Royal Collage of Anaesthetists when preparing patients for surgery. Please note that, although this event focusses on the evidence relating to, and the application of, hypnosis in anaesthesia, this meeting is of relevance to all healthcare professionals and allied health professionals.

Attendees will be able to:

  • To understand the importance of hypnotic communication in the clinical setting, particularly avoiding nocebo suggestion
  • Learn informal techniques that can be utilised in practice – of particular benefit to busy anaesthetists
  • Examine current hypnotic theories and the evidence behind them
  • Understand and evaluate the new RCoA recordings
