Professor Mike Barnes, Consultant neurologist, medical cannabis expert and Director at Maple Tree Consultancy has dedicated his career to the development of neurological rehabilitation and medical cannabis treatments and education. During a high profile career spanning over 30 year within senior roles in the NHS and independent neurorehabilitation services, Professor Barnes became interested in the medical applications of cannabis and we are delighted that he has has agreed to share his vast expertise on this subject.

This CPD/APIL accredited webinar will be an in depth discussion on cannabis as a medicine for various conditions but with a focus on neurological indications and Professor Barnes has allowed time after his presentation to field questions from the audience.

Professor Barnes will introduce cannabis as a medicine, briefly cover the history of cannabis, the endocannabinoid system, the plant itself and the cannabinoids and terpenes in the plant.

He will discuss the differences between recreational cannabis and medicinal cannabis before analysing the various modes of delivery. He will examine the evidence for the efficacy of cannabis for medical conditions, including use in substance use disorder before looking at the main side effects and contraindications.

Finally, the basic practicalities of prescribing will be described.
