Event Notes:

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) Section of Neuropsychiatry presents its 12th Annual Australian and New Zealand Neuropsychiatry Conference. This year’s conference will celebrate the theme – “Neuropsychiatry in 2023 – Frontiers, challenges and opportunities.”

This year’s conference will be held across two days at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, taking place from Friday 17 to Saturday 18 November 2023. For the first time, there will be an additional day-long symposium on Functional Neurological Disorders on Thursday 16 November 2023.

The conference program will shine a light on topical issues relevant to the practice of neuropsychiatry in 2023. Emerging models of psychiatric disorders as circuit-based diseases coupled with advances in biomarker research herald a change in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in the field. In parallel, the application of machine learning approaches to ‘big-datasets’ promises to challenge existing conventions in both the categorisation as well as the treatment of psychiatric disease states while the integration of machine learning in experimental closed loop brain stimulation systems carries the premise of precision treatment tailored to individual ‘bio-signatures’ of disease.

We hope that the topics covered in this conference will stimulate interest and a desire for discussion amongst attendees. As articulated in the conference theme, new developments in neuropsychiatry could be viewed both as challenges as well as opportunities with advances in psychedelic pharmacology offering a ready example.
